While most students are enjoying a weekend free of math and social studies homework, I ask that you take a few moments of your time today to share with your students your thoughts and reflections of where you were and what you felt on this day, 9 years ago.
This past week the students completed their first round through Sitton Spelling. For those that are new to the district, or need a quick refresher, Sitton is a newer way of teaching spelling. Instead of having a list of 20 words to memorize and spell on Friday, students are given 5 new core words (words that are used often in the English language). For the test, they have a selection of reading about two to three paragraphs long. 26 words will be missing. Students listen to me read them the selection and they have to fill in the blanks. Capital letters and punctuation count in these spelling tests.
We have just started to touch on Ancient Egypt in social studies class. Students learned about the geography of Egypt, along with feeling papyrus and taking a look at photos of one of my friends family vacations in Egypt. We have only just scratched the surface of this mystifying and intriguing civilization.
Next week students will begin to take their standardized MAP tests. Please make sure that your child is well rested and has a healthy breakfast before they come to school and have plans for a solid lunch. MAP tests, unlike the WKCE, are computer based. Still, the students need to be fueled up and ready to take on the test.
