After studying about the water supply here in Waukesha County, we had the opportunity to have a video conference call with a team in Pujujilito, Guatemala that is working on bringing fresh water to this village. The first thing our kids were asked was to think of how many places in our homes water can come into it. So, the kids counted every faucet, sink, washing machine, dishwasher, toilet, and shower. Most of our answers were between 7-12. Then they asked the to guess how many places it came into a home in this village. Their answer?
Zero.
As in none. Nilch. Nada.
That's what this team is working on. By the end of their trip, Adventure Kids Learning is hoping to have a sink outside of each home that will have running water. Kind of knocks things back into perspective for you.
Our student's had the privilege of talking with a group of Guatemalan boys and girls between the ages of 8-13 as they exchanged questions to one another through an interpreter. They asked questions about government, free time, school, favorite foods, stories and paintings, and the animals and pets they have. It was quite the experience and we hope that you take some time to talk to your kids about what they learned in it.
