Persuasive Writing & Summer Reading

The students have been working on writing persuasive letters over the course of the past few weeks. Today was their day to share out their final products with small groups of classmates.

We had topics that included:
  • Why art shouldn't be graded
  • Why band is better than sports
  • Why middle school should start later
  • Why middle school should have recess
  • Why iPods should be allowed in school
  • Why more cyber-safety should be taught in schools

Arguing that art shouldn't have grades resulted in getting to pitch her case to the principal!
The kids worked really hard on it and did a great job maintaining a high level of quality writing right up until the end of the year. Not an easy task for a 12 year old.

Here is Mr. Finn's school reading list for the summer. Kids are already adding books to it via Instagram. Feel free to follow us @mrfinn42

The students also set up summer reading programs with Miss Cleary today. Last week we had a visit from the Pewaukee Library which highlighted some of the awesome things that will be going on this summer. Hard to argue against dressing up like a Zombie for one event or coming to the library to just read and eat cake!

For more information on those programs, check out the Pewaukee Public Library page: http://www.pewaukeelibrary.org/SummerReading2013.html
