Plus, how could you possibly not smile with an Elmo cupcake staring at you?
I had a great time meeting with all of you at conferences this past week. There were a lot of productive conversations after your student laid down some goals for the future and what their plans were on how to achieve them. As always, I am just an e-mail or phone call away if you need me.
A few things are coming up that I thought I would make you aware of.
First, we will be using Skype to talk with a group of people from Wisconsin who are down in Guatemala helping bring clean water to rural villages. About 4 students from every class will participate (the rest of my class will disperse to other classrooms to make room for the rest of the 6th graders). This will allow every 6th grade class to participate and help spread the word about what we can do to help conserve water here in Pewaukee. Since there were so many students who wanted to represent our class, those who wish to participate are writing a paragraph for tomorrow to argue why they should be selected. More information on the program can be found here.
Second, during the past 5 weeks, our students have been participating in Junior Achievement and learning how all the countries across the world are connected through trade and commerce. Today, the students learned about productivity and how different machines have made humans many times more productive than we used to be. Think of the Gutenberg Press, automobile and telephone and how they have changed our lives. If you're looking for a more business-related discussion at the dinner table, don't be afraid to start asking.
Third, our fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is off to a great start. We have had kids bring in loose change, cash, checks and some have made donations online. We appreciate everything that has been donated and we thank you. This fundraiser ends Friday.
Also on Friday is our school 'Mismatch Spirit Day' - so when your son or daughter wants to leave home looking a little crazy, it's all good. School dress code still applies, but they will certainly fit in with all of the other kids.
Enjoy the sunshine!
