GoodReads - Our Digital Bookshelf

Some of our minions putting on a play in order to help understand theme, conflict and character development.

Recently, as students have slowly been finishing up various projects, we have had the opportunity to sign up on GoodReads, a website much like Shelfari (featured on our blog right now) that allows the students to create a digital bookshelf. Our first choice was Shelfari, but it requires an amazon.com account and we weren't going to go there.

GoodReads is proving its worth though. We created a class group (under groups, just search for Mr. Finn and it is easy to spot from there) for the kids to find one another and recommend books to their friends. They are able to rate books out of 5 stars, write a short review, add books that they want to read, and even keep track of the percentage they have completed of their current books by entering their page number. Eventually I am hoping that we have enough time for the kids to really dig into the site, explore it, write quality reviews, make recommendations and have discussions with their friends about their favorite books.

If you would like to join us, it is free to create an account and you can find our group just as described above. Please realize that not all students are on this site yet as they have been working on other projects. However, more and more students will join as we get some free time. If you have a child who is an avid reader, this may be a site that your child continues to use in the future. See you around!
