Drawing some inspiration from George Washington's Crossing of the Delaware for her journal entry.
Hard at work using their new figurative language skills in their journal entries.
All ready to go, with Mrs. Roben cheering them on in the background I guess.
Hopefully, by now, your student has forfeited their progress report to you. They received them at the end of the day today. This only marks a mid-point check. There is still plenty of time to push those lower grades up to where we want to see them!
We took a different spin with journaling last week. Bringing in a picture of one of Frank Llyod Wrights designs and the famous artwork of George Washington Crossing the Delaware, students had to draw inspiration from one or both of the pieces and put together an entry. Some had old memories kick back in when they saw something in the art, others made up a magical world based on Wrights designs. It was really quite interesting to hear what they came up with.
This week, in addition to tackling a persuasive letter and practice district writing assessment, the students learned about idioms. These are expressions that we use everyday, but most of us don't realize that they have a name and a purpose. Ask your student to give you an example of one or two idioms and then tell them to explain what it really means. They should all be able to do it!
We're closing in on winter break which means the 6th graders are going bowling! All of our students have turned in their permission forms and we thank those of you that have indicated that you will donate a bag of chips or cookies. We go on Monday the 20th, but if you want to send them in early, I promise we will find a safe spot for them. Otherwise Monday works wonderfully as well.
Stay warm everyone!
