First of all, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of you who attended the parent-teacher conferences this week. It was great to talk with you about how your child is doing in school. Some of the conversations were very enlightening, as some kids certainly do act differently in front of their parents than they do in class. As always, if you ever need anything from me, please don't hesitate to contact me via e-mail or phone call.
Next week the Horizon Student Council is hosting a dual collection drive. Ambitious? Yes. For good causes? Of course. Can we do it? You better believe it!
The first part of the drive is our annual district wide food drive. Last year the Pewaukee School District donated over 3,200 items to the food pantry to help those in need. Horizon students and parents donated over 2,000 of those items! We beat every school and that is a distinction that we are looking to hold onto.
In addition, we collecting items to send our troops in Afghanistan. They will be part of a large care package sent over Thanksgiving weekend so the troops will receive them during the holidays. We are looking for items such as: gum, chapstick, playing cards, nerf footballs, frisbees, winter hats and gloves (adult sizes).
If you are willing and able to send some donations in, we would greatly appreciate your generosity.
I would also like to take a moment and extend my deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to our veterans and those who are currently serving in the armed forces. We have several parents here at Horizon, some from our own classroom, who are active duty service members or reservists. We all thank you for the great sacrifices that you continue to make to keep us safe. Happy Veterans Day!
