Social Studies Update!

This year we will be on a journey that takes us through Ancient Civilizations of the world. We started in 10,000 BC with the Old Stone Age and rapidly progressed into the New Stone Age when humans started using fire to drastically improve our lives. Students compared and contrasted the similiarities and differences between the Old Stone Age and the New Stone Age using our ever-trustworthy Venn Diagram.

After we said our goodbye's to the stone ages, we moved into the rich culture of Ancient Egypt. Student's studied about the Pharaoh's, pyramids, Nile River, Sphinx, hieroglyphics, papyrus, agriculture, expeditions to neighboring powers, and of wars of unification.

Quick, Can you name at least 10 things that Ancient Egyptians are famous for? Your student can!

After our test it was time to let the student's have some more fun studying Egypt. They let their creativity run wild when they created a Sphinx in their likeness and wrote a fictional story for it. Next, they joined powers with a couple of their classmates and created board games in class that tested their Egyptian knowledge.
